At Maplebrook, shared decision-making is encouraged in every aspect of our residents’ daily lives, focusing on what residents can do rather than what they cannot do. We aim to help residents exercise the opportunity to select from a range of options in all aspects of their lives.
We avoid treating residents as a homogenous group where possible. Residents manage their own time and are not dictated to by a set communal timetable.
Personalisation within the Care Home is critical to us; we encourage residents to decorate their rooms and decide when they want a cup of tea or to go to bed, for example. Meals are provided in a way that enables residents as far as possible to decide for themselves where, when and with whom they consume food and drink of their choice, supported by or team to ensure nutritional needs are met. We respect everyone’s uniqueness and help retain maximum flexibility in the routines of the daily life of the home.
Getting to know the residents and what they used to do and enjoy before coming to live at Maplebrook makes all the difference. Making small choices themselves helps our residents to feel at home.
Grace, Unit Manager says, “Our residents and relatives are best placed to help us deliver good quality care, we listen to their needs, likes and dislikes to ensure we create a care plan and offer the right level of support for everyone’s unique needs. Our care is all created with the ethos of a person-centred approach with dignity, respect and independence at the forefront which is why choice is so key to someone’s overall wellbeing.”
