Palliative and End-of-Life Care

At Maplebrook Care Home, we offer compassionate and dignified care for individuals who are approaching the final stages of life. We understand how important it is for people to feel comfortable, respected and well supported at this time – and for families to feel reassured that their loved one is receiving the very best care. Our experienced team provides 24-hour nursing support, pain and symptom management, and emotional care in a calm, peaceful environment where every detail is thoughtfully considered.

Each person’s needs and wishes are different, which is why we work closely with residents, families and health professionals to provide a personalised approach. Whether someone is with us for a short time or has lived at Maplebrook for longer, our priority is to ensure comfort, preserve dignity, and offer gentle support every step of the way.

What is Palliative and End-of-Life Care?

Palliative care focuses on improving quality of life for individuals with life-limiting or terminal conditions. It may be provided over a longer period alongside treatment or in the final stages of life when the focus is on comfort rather than cure. This type of care supports pain relief, symptom management and emotional wellbeing, helping people to feel as comfortable and at peace as possible.

End-of-life care is the final part of the palliative care journey, when a person is nearing the end of their life. At Maplebrook, this is delivered with deep respect, warmth and sensitivity. We make sure that wishes are honoured, families are involved, and care is delivered with calm reassurance. Our team is also experienced in supporting those who are bereaved, offering space and understanding at a time when it’s most needed.

Palliative and End-of-Life Care at Maplebrook Care Home

Our team provides specialist end-of-life care in a setting that feels calm, private and supportive. Each resident has a personalised care plan that reflects their medical needs, personal values, and any spiritual or cultural wishes they may have. We work closely with GPs, district nurses and palliative care teams to ensure seamless support at every stage.

We also support families by offering quiet spaces to spend time together, open visiting, and practical and emotional guidance when needed. Whether it’s adjusting pain relief, offering a hand to hold, or simply making sure someone’s favourite music is playing, we take great care with the small things that bring comfort.

Palliative care supports people with life-limiting conditions and focuses on comfort, not cure. End-of-life care is part of this journey and is provided in the final weeks or days of life, with a focus on dignity and support for both the resident and their loved ones.

Yes. We offer open visiting for families during end-of-life care, as we know how important it is to be together. We also offer quiet spaces for private time and overnight stays where possible.

We take the time to talk with residents and their families about their wishes, preferences and beliefs. Every care plan is individual and designed to reflect what matters most to the person and those closest to them.
