Sensory Room

At Maplebrook Care Home, we understand how important it is to have quiet, calming spaces where residents can relax and feel safe. Our sensory room has been specially designed to support emotional wellbeing, reduce anxiety and provide gentle stimulation for those who need it. It’s a peaceful place where residents can enjoy time on their own or with a member of staff in a calm, controlled environment.

A Calming Space with Purpose

Our sensory room offers a multi-sensory environment with soft lighting, calming sounds, tactile materials and gentle movement. It’s particularly beneficial for residents living with dementia, autism, anxiety or other conditions that may make busy spaces overwhelming. The room can help to reduce agitation, encourage communication and provide reassurance during times of distress. For others, it’s simply a quiet place to enjoy some one-to-one time, listen to music or unwind with the soothing effects of the environment.

Personalised Sensory Sessions

The sensory room is used as part of each resident’s personalised wellbeing plan, with sessions tailored to their needs and preferences. Some residents benefit from regular visits as part of their routine, while others may use the space more flexibly when they need time away from busier areas of the home. It’s one of several therapeutic tools we use to support emotional regulation, confidence and comfort – helping residents feel more in control and at ease in their surroundings.
