The benefits of our Sensory Room

Sensory room in our care home

At Maplebrook Care Home, we believe in providing more than just a place to reside; we strive to create an environment that nurtures the well-being of our residents. One feature that sets Maplebrook Care Home apart is our dedicated sensory room – a space designed to cater to the unique needs of individuals, offering solace and support when the world becomes overwhelming.

Our sensory room is not merely a timeout space; it’s a sanctuary for those moments when residents feel overstimulated. Whether navigating the challenges of dementia or coping with Mental Health, our sensory room becomes a therapeutic retreat.

Sensory rooms are designed to provide a soothing environment where individuals can regain control of their emotions. For residents with dementia, the sensory stimulation fosters interaction with caregivers, promoting communication on both verbal and non-verbal levels. It’s a place where the gentle embrace of sensory tools and toys opens avenues for meaningful connections.

Here’s how our sensory room contributes to the well-being of our residents:

  • Enhanced Concentration and Focus: The sensory-rich environment aids in increasing concentration levels, helping individuals focus on the present moment.
  • Elevated Mood and Self-Esteem: Regular sessions in the sensory room contribute to improved mood, boosted self-esteem, and an overall sense of well-being.
  • Fostering Social Engagement: Residents become more active participants in social activities, strengthening connections with friends and family.

The benefits of sensory rooms are not confined to specific conditions; they are a universal source of comfort and support. Individuals experiencing emotional turbulence find solace in the carefully curated, low-stress environment, facilitating emotional control and offering a respite from the challenges of daily life. Our sensory room has comfortable seating, lights that we can change the colour of, a calming, sensory, bubble lamp tube and lots of items of varying textures to touch.

Kym Hubbard, Peripatetic Manager, said: β€œAt Maplebrook, our sensory room is a testament to our commitment to holistic care. It’s a space that benefits our residents by being a universal source of comfort and support and allowing them to find solace in the carefully curated, low-stress environment, facilitating emotional control.”
